Overview

 

Working as a team with the Lead Optometrist, and providing regional support to the business, the role of the Lead Dispenser, plays a major part within Visioncall and helps to make a real difference to our Patient’s lives.   You will be responsible for clinical management within the Visioncall ‘Hub and Spoke’ model, leading and developing our Associate clinical teams and growing local business. Working as part of a peer team you will lead from the front delivering customer service excellence and building the brand locally aiming to be “the best domiciliary eye care provider in the UK”.

 

You will travel to different locations / residential care homes across your region carrying out pre-testing and ethically dispensing spectacles to patients, many of whom are vulnerable and have additional support needs.

 

In addition, there is an element of ‘off the tools’ activities required to support the business as it navigates the ’post covid’ recovery.

 

The role may also undertake deliveries fitting patients with their spectacles, if required.

 

A key aspect will be building and maintaining strong working relationships with Care Home Staff and their residents and providing outstanding services to make Visioncall their Optical supplier of choice.

Responsibilities

 

  • Inspire and motivate our teams through leading by example
  • Undertake pre-testing and spectacle dispensing/fitting at designated locations within your region, including obtaining relevant information pre-visit.
  • Comply with regulations relating to doffing and donning PPE for yourself and/or your Optometrist and where required train others in this regard.
  • Management of the test day, liaising with the Optometrist and Care Home to ensure the smooth and efficient running of clinics to ensure best possible patient care and profitability.
  • Recruit, induct, performance manage and train new members of the team in conjunction with the Lead Optometrist.
  • Support and guide all Associate members of the regional Dispensing team to perform their role to the best of their ability
  • Ensure the accurate completion and timely submission of all relevant test and delivery day documentation, including NHS GOS via eGOS or forms.
  • Maintain the dispensing and frame KIT ensuring they are kept in good condition and with adequate supply of sundries, including PPE for infection control.
  • Audit the kit of Associate dispensers and Optometrists to ensure condition and compliance.
  • Comply and keep up to date with company Infection prevention and control policies and ensure disposal of any clinical waste meets Company guidelines.
  • Ensure ethical dispensing by supporting the Patient in choosing the most beneficial and cost-appropriate solution for their eyecare needs.
  • Ensure you take accurate and all appropriate dispensing measurements.
  • Undertake repairs and adjustments on patients’ spectacles as required.
  • Checking in spectacles received from Visioncall Lab and ensuring their security until ready for delivery.
  • Ensure scheduling of deliveries of spectacles by Associate dispensers is efficient and within agreed timescales, providing training on fitting patient spectacles, explaining their use in line with the lifestyle passport and correct care for glasses.
  • Understand, achieve and exceed financial benchmarks per clinic and zone(s); on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis.
  • Communicate new initiatives to patients, family members, customers and clinical team on behalf of the Lead Optometrist if required
  • Proactively liaise with care homes, patients and next of kin to develop and maintain strong relationships and make Visioncall their Optical supplier of choice.
  • Gather accurate next of kin details for the Patients to pass to the office based optical advisors to process.
  • Process any private payments with the Next of Kin.
  • Tailor communication to best meet the patients support needs and deliver best possible care.
  • Always represent Visioncall in a professional and positive manner.
  • Ensuring any care home or patient requests are dealt with appropriately and in a timely manner, making sure that any changes to Patient details are always up to date.
  • Manage any care home, patient or next of kin complaints and resolve in an efficient, professional manner, recording complaints accurately.
  • Maintain confidentially regarding the company business/employees/patients and their families.
  • Work to Company and industry regulatory practices, adhering to Company standards, policies and procedures, delivering best practice methods and taking responsibility for our Customer’s needs.
  • Keep your knowledge current in all aspects of our standard operating practices, meeting key performance outcomes which contribute to the overall team success.
  • Meet any CET requirements relating to your qualification
  • Offer support to others to help them learn and solve any Customer issues, both within the team and sharing knowledge more widely.
  • Provide administrative support to the office function as may be required.
  • Work as a peer team with Visioncall Regional Lead Dispensers to share ideas and best practice.
  • Working to and positively contributing to our Company culture and values.
  • Undertake any other requests as may be reasonably required by the business.

Qualifications

  • Dispensing Optician (or qualified by experience)
  • You should be passionate about working within the Optical Health Care sector, particularly domiciliary care.
  • Communicate effectively with elderly and vulnerable adults in a positive and professional manner with patience, respect, dignity and empathy, both oral and written.
  • Strong Leadership skills. Previous experience of training or conducting supervisions would be advantageous
  • Experience in pre-testing and the ability to dispensing at all levels including SV, Bi-focal and Varifocals
  • You must be confident in your ability to carry out minor repairs and adjustments whilst on site.
